Vermiculture is a way of composting using earthworms to speed up the process of breakdown of organic matter by earthworms. It is easily done inside the home as it takes only a small amount of room and creates no odor. As the worms digest the kitchen scraps, their castings (poop) is a rich fertilizer for the herb garden. We can have a fresh compost year around for the plants.

Using Finished Compost
The finished compost will be black and crumbly. This composted material is not to be used straight in pots; however, must be mixed into the top inch of plant pot as an amendment to what is already there. By watering, the nutrients are slowly washed down to the roots thereby making an endless supply of organic fertilizer!

Check-Dams
We have 3 Check Dams in Sempatti. It is used to store water like a mini pond. The water is harvested from the rain and also from the outflow of excess water from Kamarajar Sagar Dam. The collected water in Check Dams are used for irrigation even in summer seasons.
